Talented Sao Paulo-based photographer Flavio Samelo has a new book out called Concreta - I need to hunt down a copy! I love his other book, Skate Arte, and this one looks even better.

You can check out an 18 page preview of the 80 page Concreta here. As you’ll see as you flick through the pages, Flavio has a wonderful capacity for capturing unique architectural lines, shapes, light and shadow.

I can’t wait to get a copy of José Parlá’s new book, Walls, Diaries and Paintings. I’m also excited about his March solo exhibition at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York, at which the book will be released.

Bryce Wolkowitz had a great piece from Parlá in their booth at Pulse Miami in December (sorry about my awful Blackberry photo if you clicked on the link).

Learn more about the book, which was published by Hatje Cantzhere.

A signed, limited edition copy of EVERFRESH: BLACKBOOK arrived in the mail for me this afternoon - thanks for sending it, @AaronRTS!

Click here for more info on this cool book from The Miegunyah Press (the dedicated illustrated imprint of Melbourne University Publishing) about the Melbourne-based crew. I’ve only flipped through the photos and read Alison Young’s foreword so far, but I’m planning to check it out in full when I finish work tonight.

PS: Hurry if you want one of the limited edition copies (which comes with an Everfresh print and a signed, numbered photograph from Josh Robenstone) as there are only 500 available (mine is #100!).

Dan Witz (tasj vol i - issue iv cover artist) is having a signing for his monograph Dan Witz: In Plain View tonight at Clic Gallery (424 Broome St) from 6:30-9:30pm.

If you live in New York, I highly recommend you stop by. The book is fantastic in itself, but having a special edition is just that bit more special. There will be also be signings in Miami next month if you can’t make this one - more on those soon.

This photo of Dan hand painting copies is by Jaime Rojo from Brooklyn Street Art. Read BSA’s interview with Dan and see more photos from inside the studio here.

For those in LA who missed the New York launch, Taschen is hosting a launch and signing of Trespass at their Beverly Hills store tonight with Ethel Seno, Marc and Sara Schiller and Carlo McCormick in attendance.

We’ve worked with many artists over the past few years who are featured in this book, including Alexone, Blek le Rat, C215, Martha Cooper, Brad Downey, Eine, Claudio Ethos, Mark Jenkins, Know Hope, Anthony Lister, The London Police, M-City, Other, Sam3, Shepard Fairey, Slinkachu, Christ Stain, Judith Supine, Nick Walker, Dan Witz and WK Interact. We are also friends with and supporters of many, many more so we’ll definitely be stopping by tonight. Hope to see you there!

This is a nice book and I recommend getting a copy. Not only did we interview our friends Marc and Sara Schiller for the tasj Backstage series (vol ii - issue ii), but editor Ethel Seno has a very special place in tasj’s history and was an indispensable help to me on the design and technical side for several issues. I’m thrilled to see that her hard work on this project has paid off.

I absolutely love getting things in the mail, whether it’s a Christie’s catalogue, art for a show we’re about to throw at the gallery, or a random pair of pink tights from my mom.
One of my favorite regular mailbox arrivals, however, has to be the quarterly Spanish art, design and culture journal d(x)i.
I can’t remember when we first started getting it. We didn’t sign up - it just started arriving one day and continues to do every few months. I remember thinking how strange it was that they would just send it to us for free, all the way from Valencia to Los Angeles. Kind of funny considering we started doing the same thing with tasj not long after! Now it just seems normal.
Above, you can see some of their past issues. We just received number 39 (top left) a couple days ago. As always, it contains some really interesting articles and is really smartly designed. They would probably die if they saw my tasj layout.

The current issue (vol ii - issue ii) of the tasj bookshelf has a special focus: magazines. While today’s digital world is a great source of breaking news and information, I believe print media has more value than ever before. It’s not easy to put out a publication - whether it’s a daily, weekly, monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly - and it’s important to support and celebrate the people who do so, and do so successfully.
I read, follow and respect a lot of magazines, but here’s who I highlighted this time around:
Paper, Glass, Frieze, Blend, Nico, Tar, VNA, Elephant, Afterall
For me, a good art/art-related magazine consists of unique editorial, well-curated images and intelligent presentation and design. You will find all of these elements and more in the above titles.
Click on the respective links to subscribe online or to learn which bookshops and newsstands to visit to grab copies in person. Incidentally, many of the magazines also have great blogs, so check them out, too.
Happy reading!
